— A little reflection on healing, drawing, and the victories no one sees.
I do not always win myself,
Some days, I lose my way.
Between the things I ought to do,
And the strength I have today.
Some days I fight, some days I flee,
Some days I’m caught between.
A thousand thoughts, a crowded mind,
And dreams still left unseen.
My lists grow long, my hours run short,
My body asks for rest.
While somewhere in my restless mind,
I’m still trying to do my best.
And then I draw.

A little line, a little curve,
A world beneath my hand.
No deadlines here, no race to run,
Just colours that understand.
Perhaps one day I’ll learn some more,
Explore a different art.
But for now, these simple little strokes
Bring quiet to my heart.
I have my goals, I have my dreams,
And mountains yet to climb.
But I am learning, day by day,
That healing deserves time.
For what is winning, after all,
If I lose myself along the way?
What good are all the boxes ticked,
If my soul has no room to stay?
So now I count my victories
In ways I never knew.
A morning rise, a peaceful meal,
A little thing I managed to do.
A daily task, a moment’s rest,
A gentle breath between.
A kinder thought towards myself,
And space for what I’ve been.
Some days, my greatest victory
Is simply getting through.
Some days, it’s choosing not to fight
The things I cannot do.
I may not finish every list,
Nor reach each distant shore.
But every day I care for myself,
I’m growing a little more.
So let the world keep counting wins
In all the things we do.
I’ll count the days I gave myself
The kindness I was due.
For I am more than work undone,
More than the goals I chase.
I am a body learning rest,
A soul deserving space.
And if today I only draw,
Then let that be enough.
A little line, a little life,
A quiet kind of love.
Perhaps the greatest win of all
Is not how far I’ve come,
But learning how to live with me,
And gently call myself home.
